Fatherhood is not only a responsibility but also an honor. Just as a man must plant a seed for a child to be conceived, a father must sow a seed in the spirit, heart and character of a child, shaping the child to realize his/her dreams and destiny. Although a father doesn’t have to be perfect to be valuable, he must be present in a child’s life in order for the child to reach his/her destination and fullest potential. Because men are inherently different from women, a father’s perspective is vital to each child’s development. Although a man does not have to be a husband to be a father, a father provides a role-model of servant-hearted leadership exemplifying compassion, honesty, integrity, fairness, trustworthiness, strength, and courage. A father is a man who chooses to sacrificially and genuinely love a child without conditions or prerequisites.

1. A father seeks to sacrificially spend time with children, taking time to listen, knowing that it is in building relationship that trust and freedom of expression is bred.

2. A father follows through with responsibilities and promises so that children learn by example the trustworthiness of a male role model.

3. A father models the caring role of a husband, values the mother as an equal partner in the nurturing of their children and advocates her place as an equal member of society, yet fatherhood transcends beyond the end of the parents’ relationship to one another.

4. A father serves children with humility and compassion, exemplifying servant-hearted leadership to his family and community.

5. A father identifies children’s potential, instructing and guiding them with words and actions to make better choices, directing them to a better future and realizing their potential.

6. A father provides a solid foundation in which each child can take root, creating a safe environment for growth.

7. A father unconditionally loves each child with genuineness and forgiveness, allowing each child to experience security and freedom to be himself or herself.

8. A father nurtures each child with tenderness, surrounding them within an atmosphere of security in which he/she could thrive.

9. A father illustrates a strong work ethic, exemplifying the principle that with hard work and discipline, success can be achieved.

10. A father teaches children that they are accountable for their choices, using discipline when necessary with restrained strength and tolerance, so that children learn the difference between right and wrong.
